I love crafting and recently delved into the world of macrame. When I first started, I didn't have anything in mind, though I had bought a macrame book to reference. I headed to the craft store to find some hoops and cord. It was just after the winter holiday season so there were other goodies on clearance like ribbons and bells.
Then the idea clicked that I could make my own witch bells! I started with wrapping the hoop with a simple tie. Then I created some macrame strands...basically the way I made bracelets as a young kid. The twisted spiral. I decided to tie bells onto these strands. Then I added ribbon and tied other charms on different strands. It was very simple!

It was my first project, so I didn't really track the specific steps in order to create a tutorial. Creating your own set of Witch Bells is very easy. Start with a circular frame. I often see people use grapevine wreaths as their form, which can be decorated with ribbon, flowers, maybe even wire wrapped crystals. Then attach at least three bells. You can get creative and attach other charms to it as well.
Why would you make Witch Bells? The sound of a bell is known to cleanse the air the sound moves through. Witch Bells are believed to provide protection and ward of bad energy. It is wise to hang them on a door handle or on a door.
The act of creating the bells can be in the format of a spell as you make it or part of a ritual to cleans and protect your home. You can choose colors and decorative accents based on intent and other values you might want to bring into your home. This way the negative energy won't really have room to stay!
You could bless you bells with incense or water corresponding to your intentions. Then you could state or chant a prayer, spell, or blessing as you place the bells. An example can be found below:
Bells of silver, Bells of gold
Ring out loud, Ring out bold
Protect this home from baneful will
Bring only blessings, this fulfill
There are many other ways you can use macrame to craft other tools for witchcraft. I will sharing a few in the future once I have a bit more practice! I have so many ideas and I can't wait to see them manifested. I would love to know about some of YOUR magical crafts!
