We have arrived! The Spring Equinox brings in Aries season from March 21 to April 20th. Aries is considered the first sign of the zodiac and some feel this time of year represents the "new" year. Aries is a cardinal sign, which means it is a beginning. It is the sign that begins the Spring season. The Ram, the emblem of Aries, has fleece which returns when it is shorn. Aries energy is known to address things head-on, like the horns of the ram. In a way, this might relate to the fact that Aries person is prone to headaches because Aries governs the head of the body.

Aries' planet, Mars, also adds to this energy. Mars is named after the God of War. Mars embodies the energies of action, desire, will-power, aggression. Aries and Mars also correspond with the element of fire. Fire also represents action, will, creativity, and passion.

Aries rules the first house, which governs "the self"- our perception of ourselves individually. It can impact what you look like, how you see the world, and your own ego.

"I am" is the key phrase for Aries. Below are some of Aries trademark traits:

  • Strong self confidence

  • Charismatic

  • Independent

  • Leader

  • Fearless

  • Curious

  • Dramatic

  • Optimistic

  • Selfish

  • Arrogant

  • Impulsive

  • Impatient

  • Loves variety

  • Physical and psychological strength

  • Self starters

Aries are initiators and are known as pioneers. They like the freedom to do just about anything. Sometimes they can become dominating because they like leading and aren't afraid to speak their minds. Aries enjoy coming up with ideas, but can sometimes lose interest in things quickly. I should know because I am an Aries Sun and currently struggling to get this post finished. I got a lot of things to do!

So my Sun sign is in Aries. The sun sign is often what most people know about astrology. It is the sign where the sun was on the day you were born. The Sun sign represents YOU! The essence of your life force, your spark, your center, and the main expression of who you are. Luckily for me, the Sun is exalted in Aries, meaning it is comfortable and confident existing there.

As an Aries Sun, I am strong and independent with high energy. I am passionate and my emotions emerge quickly. Several references state I am looking to prove myself through acts of courage and bravery. Others highlight that I am in the process of building my personality. I appreciate how Chan Nicholas states that the sign that the sun is in represents how you shine and the house that it is in represents the area of life in which you need to shine. She goes on to also state that the planets in aspect to the sun indicate who is influencing your ability to shine. Aspects will be reviewed at some point in the future as I am still learning here.

So, my Aries Sun is located in the 8th House, the house of death/regeneration and shared resources. This is a bit of a mixed bag here. It represents our thoughts on death and the afterlife while also governing resources like investments and inheritances. It can also reflect "ego" death and sharing personal talents and gifts with others. So I need to shine in death and shared resources. YES! Many of my references mention that those with this placement become therapists, death doulas, bereavement counselors...any vocation dealing with death or the dead.

My calling as a end-of-life music therapist is written in the stars. I am right where I am supposed to be. I also feel this placement represents my path as a member of a traditional Wiccan coven with a lineage that has passed down knowledge and resources I gratefully get to inherit. These two aspects are a huge part of my personality creating the drive to create this blog.

My Vesta is also in Aries. There isn't a ton of information about this asteroid, but it relates to the myth of Vesta, a goddess of hearth and home. The energy represents our inner flame, our inner light like the fire of the hearth. Aries seems to fit well here and I know I have a strong inner light that continues to grow stronger everyday.
